Captain Fantastic looks to be the weird story about a guy who decides to live off the grid and raise kids. Kinda like Alaskan Bushpeople but with less snow and this at least openly admits to being fiction. Just look at the synopsis:
Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, a devoted father (Viggo Mortensen) dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self-created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges his idea of what it means to be a parent and brings into question everything he’s taught them.
Seems interesting enough and it’s received a great reception while making its way around the indie circuits. I am indifferent about the movie but I do enjoy seeing Mortensen in this. This could be his Frank Gallagher and bring him back to the forefront of our minds or it could just be another credit on his resume that looms in the shadow of Lord of the Rings.
My biggest takeway from this trailer? I now wonder why Marvel has not yet found a role for him in one of their films. This guy could easily play Star-Lord’s dad.
